NSBR Announces Education Leadership Class of 2019

New Schools for Baton Rouge (NSBR) is proud to announce the 2019-2020 class of Education CHANGEMAKERS. The 24 participants were selected from across Baton Rouge’s corporate, nonprofit and public sectors and are focused on exploring the challenges of improving education in our community.

The CHANGEMAKERS were announced on Thursday, August 29 at a morning reception in their honor at the Louisiana Art & Science Museum. Throughout the year, participants will engage with local education leaders, tour a variety of schools and complete volunteer hours in our community. In addition, two graduates from the 2018-2019 CHANGEMAKERS class spoke about their experience at the morning reception: Franz Borghardt, attorney at The Borghardt Law Firm, and Dr. Tatiana Patel, Doctor of Infectious Disease at Baton Rouge Clinic.

The goal of the program is to provide residents with the knowledge and skills necessary to address education issues and to work together for excellent schools for all Baton Rouge area students.  Participants will deepen their understanding of the education ecosystem through exposure to current and future issues impacting education in our community.

“Much like last year, our current cohort builds out an impressive group of active citizens who, through their long list of volunteer initiatives and professional endeavors, are a great cross-sectional representation of people who understand what it takes to prepare our students today for the demands and careers of tomorrow,” said NSBR CEO, Chris Meyer.
