"Meet the Staff": Brenna Lamb

What’s a quote that motivates you throughout the day?But first, coffee. What are your favorite go-to locations to recharge and gain inspiration/motivation?Anytime I can walk outside with my dog for 20-30 minutes, I instantly feel reinvigorated. What is the funniest joke you’ve heard recently? I literally laughed out loud at this one ... "If you want to know what it's like to be in your 30s, I just ordered an orange soda with my lunch and said 'that'll be a nice little treat' out loud."What’s some insider knowledge that only people in your line of work have? Unfortunately, we frequently have more information about school quality and access than individuals that work outside of the education sector. I hope that the work we do over the coming year will help to make that "insider knowledge" more accessible to everyone else in the community. What’s about to get much better?I think that in the next few years, we're going to see educational quality and equity raised to the forefront of the community's consciousness. Any time you can shine a brighter spotlight on an issue, it forces you to confront the reality of what's happening and to find ways to make it better. If we can all agree that our children deserve the best education possible, I think we can collectively work to find new and creative solutions to meet that aspiration.Who would play you in a movie of your life?Someone with a serious sleep deficit! What sets NSBR apart? Our organization is doggedly focused on improving education, but also remains flexible in how we work toward that lofty goal. Our first few years, we focused exclusively on great schools as the unit of change. As we have matured, we've also realized that we have to create a supportive ecosystem for great schools and engage families as key agents in realizing better outcomes for all students. What bit of trivia do you know that is very interesting but also very useless?Did you know that a double rainbow is a function of light being refracted through the same raindrop twice? And that the second, fainter rainbow is actually in reverse color order? Well now you do! (This information is brought to you by my 3-year-old son's new favorite book, "Rainbows: Nature's Light Show".)What really needs to be modernized?Changing your name - it's such an arduous process! I got married a few years ago, but just haven't gotten around to officially changing my name. It occasionally creates some confusions when I have to use my legal name, since I go by my married name. What topic could you spend hours talking about?Data. I could just spend hours on data, data science, data visualization, and data storage. SQL: My Second Language. What handy tips or tricks have you picked up from your NSBR position?I focus on keeping my priorities to three. If I try to take on more than three priorities at any one time, they're really no longer actual priorities. This forces me to prioritize, delegate, or dismiss workflow as needed. What do you do to make the world a better place?I genuinely try to treat others the way that I hope to be treated, and try to instill that in my own kiddos. What’s your favorite thing about Baton Rouge? This community's love is fierce. It's love of place, love of family, love of others. It's one of the most welcoming and vibrant communities I've ever lived in.What’s the best lesson you’ve learned from a work of fiction? The answer is always 42.
