Educator Profile: Kenytara Snowden

From the time Kenytara was a young child, she always admired her teachers and the dedication and work they do to prepare students for their lives. Her philosophy involves that once in a while, a teacher comes along in the life of a student who inspires them to expand their knowledge, to go onto greatness and embrace the world around them. She wanted to be a teacher because she wanted to inspire and instill a love for learning in every student, and she believes that giving the students one on one interaction will change their lives.

A graduate with her Masters of Science in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Phoenix, Mrs. Snowden has been part of the education field for 11 years, and she was named “Teacher of the Year” in 2017. Her most memorable moment was listening to the nominee feedback and thinking that she wanted to be like the nominee they were talking about, and being surprised that all that nominee feedback was about her. She realized that she was making an impact on her students, and she was living her purpose.

As a teacher at IDEA Bridge, she appreciates her colleagues and staff. She says, “Everyday we ALL work hard to reach impressive goals, as we prepare ALL of our scholars for college.” She enjoys interacting daily with her students, and learning from them. For Baton Rouge, she would like to see less standardized testing and more authentic instruction.

During her free time, she enjoys crafting, spending time with friends, and reading to her children, Deston and Dominic.
