Educator Profile: Janae Babineaux

Janae Babineaux chose IDEA Bridge because of her experience as a member of City Year Baton Rouge. She is a graduate from Louisiana State University with a Bachelors in History, and a Masters degree in Education from Southern University. In 2005, she joined City Year Baton Rouge to get experience in learning more teaching, and she fell in love with kids, with Baton Rouge and with someone who would eventually become her husband. Janae says the highlights of her day are the hugs, the unexpected moments of laughter, and being able to watch the students grow. Her goal is to become a coach for other teachers and to get additional certification and training as a reading specialist or Montessori. Janae works to ensure that each of her students are happy, healthy, and working above grade-level. She wants them to experience classrooms where they feel safe, loved and challenged. One of the things that she wants Baton Rouge to change is to be solution-oriented and be proud of each part of the city. The idea of moving out of Baton Rouge or creating a new city or sending children to private school just to avoid public education is not the answer. We need to listen to the voices of the people working in the schools, place more social workers and counselors, and support staff to help educate the “whole child”With six years of experience, and graduated from LSU with a Bachelors of History and her Masters from Southern University, she enjoys spending time outdoors, trying new restaurants, listening to podcasts and working out. She is a proud #LSUTIGER.
